What is a good normalized RMSE?
Based on the rule of thumb, which unfortunately shows RMSE values between 0.2 and 0.5, the model is basically able to accurately predict the data. So an adjusted R-square greater than 0.75 is probably a very good value for confirming accuracy. In some cases, an adjusted R-square of 0.4 or higher may also be acceptable.
In statistical modeling, and especially in regression analysis, a common way to measure how well a model fits is the RMSE (also called standard deviation), defined as

where (y_i) is the ith value of y and Å· is the imaginary value of y given by the model. If the predicted responses are very specific to the true responses, the RMSE will be small. If the expected and true responses are very different – at least for some results – the RMSE will be large. A value of zero would indicate another perfect fit to the data. Because RMSE is measured on your current scale using the same strengths as (y), you can expect 68% of the y values to fall within 1 RMSE, assuming the data is normally distributed.

Although individual whales of different species currently vary in absolute values much more than tuna, this option is more of a half-sister in relation to the overall size of your whales, as well as comparable seafood.

In a live comparison, I will be comparing 4 alternatives using the original, standardized, sqrt and thus log-transformed data set. I will first use the full dataset to train the task and model (via RNMSE) and then just split the data into a training test and a subset.
